The Earth Saviours Foundation

Global warming and climate change are at an all-time high across the entire South Asian region. India being at the core of these issues has been facing numerous challenges related to; air pollution, waste management, water scarcity, conservation of natural resources, and loss of biodiversity, which are all increasing rapidly every day. India was ranked 14th at the United Nations global climate risk index. In 2017, India was the 2nd most-affected country in terms of casualties related to extreme weather conditions. Due to major traffic and serious overpopulation, in 2020, Mumbai was ranked as the 2nd noisiest city in the world, with sound levels that can top over 100 decibels. If India’s deteriorating environmental issues are not catered to on a large scale, it will soon move towards a life threatening environmental crisis, which will severely harm our wildlife, forests and natural resources.

Our entire existence is heavily dependent upon the environment. It is the essence of our living and if we do not provide it with the proper attention and nourishment it requires, there is a strong possibility that the entire humankind can be wiped out completely. In the race towards rapid upgradation, we have compromised our natural environment, treating it like our personal dumping yard. We at T.E.S.F have made it our goal to help maintain the balance and habitat of our Mother Earth. Since 2008, we have been fighting the war against climate change and global warming by introducing various campaigns against noise and air pollution, tackling water scarcity in Indian villages, spreading awareness about deforestation and the need to plant more trees.

1. Promote Electric Cremation Using firewood for cremation ceremonies has been a tradition in India since many years and is followed by numerous religious groups in our country. Even though this tradition is considered as sacred by a large amount people in India, the environmental repercussions behind this funeral practise is extremely concerning. A traditional wood fire cremation burns anything between 500 to 600 kilograms of wood, taking over six hours to completely settle and an estimate of 50 to 60 million trees are cut and burnt annually in India for the purpose of cremations, alone. T.E.S.F acknowledges the harmful effects of wood fire cremation on our trees and air. We not only promote but also carry out funerals using electric cremation services, to reduce air pollution and deforestation. Our Founder Shri Ravi Kalra (Karma Yogi) is the only non-priest in the world, who through our project Karmic Seva, has cremated more than 8000 unclaimed and unidentified dead bodies at the electric crematoriums. We at T.E.S.F ensure the practise of a safe and eco-friendly cremation, while also providing those unclaimed souls with a dignified funeral.

2. A Greener India Whenever someone pays a visit to any of our Gurukuls, we at T.E.S.F offer them small plants in the form of welcome gifts. By offering plants as welcome gifts, we hope to spread awareness about the dangerously rising levels of air pollution and deforestation in India. We directly or indirectly depend on plants for several of our needs and hence, they mean much more for our basic living needs and surroundings, than we may realise. Various green plants produce basic food for all living organisms, plants play a huge role in preserving the balance of oxygen, they reduce rising levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) from our atmosphere, which decreases chances of global warming and plants also maintain the ozone layer that helps protect us from damaging UV radiation. Plants are more than the sum of their leaves, stems, fronds and roots. We receive many visitors at our shelters, giving each and every one of them a plant, will lead to at least a 3% increase of planting in our local area. This may be a small number, but is an important step in the fight towards a greener India. We at T.E.S.F have started this initiative in the hopes of spreading awareness about the various consequences that deforestation and air pollution have on our environment and well-being.

3. Say ''No'' to Firecrackers India is the 5th most polluted country in the entire world, with an average PM2.5 concentration of 50.08 and among the 30 most polluted cities across the globe, 21 of them belong to India. Delhi, India's capital, is notorious for some of the worst air levels in the whole of India and even the most polluted city in the whole world, Kanpur, is found in India. But, one day of the entire year single handedly causes the maximum level of air pollution in India, i.e. the day we celebrate the festival of lights, Diwali. The tradition of bursting firecrackers on Diwali across several parts of India, especially North India, is primarily responsible for an increase in the concentration of dust and pollutants in the air, noise pollution and spreading of toxic chemicals in the atmosphere. The link between COVID-19 deaths and air pollution has been established by several research studies across the globe. India has the 2nd highest number of covid cases in the world, thus such high levels of air pollution levels in the country can be catastrophic for our environment and citizens. Since the beginning, The Earth Saviours Foundation has been a strong advocate for environmental conservation and protection. Realising the harmful effects of celebrating Diwali using firecrackers, we organized a nationwide Anti-Firecrackers Awareness Campaign across many schools in India. Our founder Shri Ravi Kalra, gave informative talks in these schools to hundreds of children about the negative consequences of noise and air pollution. Along with this, our team created numerous posters and banners, explaining the harmful effect of firecrackers on mother earth. These posters and banners were displayed in various villages and areas across Gurgaon and Delhi NCR, to spread awareness about our initiative.

If you share our love and dedication for mother earth, Donate now to our environmental initiatives and leave your mark on our war against nature’s annihilation.
